When the Biden-Harris Administration took office, WDG helped transition WhiteHouse.gov to the new administration and continued as the primary development partner responsible for maintaining and improving the platform. We also designed and launched major initiatives – including COVID.gov, CovidTests.gov, Invest.gov, AI.gov, and CleanEnergy.gov – helping ensure the Administration could communicate clearly and directly with the public.

CHALLENGE

Establishing a New, Modern Foundation for WhiteHouse.gov

WhiteHouse.gov operates under constant public scrutiny. It must support millions of visitors, publish time-sensitive information, and remain operational during moments when reliability is critical—including presidential transition.

At the start of our partnership, the platform required modernization to improve performance and publishing workflows. That work became especially important during the transition between administrations, when the outgoing site needed to be archived while the incoming administration’s site was prepared and launched on a fixed national deadline.

At the same time, the Administration needed new digital platforms to support pandemic response, infrastructure investment, and emerging policy initiatives.

Establishing a Modern Platform

In 2017, WDG led the migration of WhiteHouse.gov from Drupal to WordPress, rebuilding the platform within a federal-compliant hosting environment. This transition improved performance and gave the White House team greater flexibility to publish and manage content.

WDG also rebuilt infrastructure components, migrated integrations, and implemented monitoring and deployment workflows, creating a foundation that could support future administrations without requiring another full rebuild.

Supporting Presidential Transitions

Seamlessly Transitioning Into the 46th Administration

The transition to the Biden-Harris Administration required careful coordination across federal teams, hosting providers, and the National Archives.

WDG helped archive the outgoing administration’s website, prepared new infrastructure, and supported launch readiness testing. On Inauguration Day, WhiteHouse.gov relaunched on schedule, allowing the incoming administration to communicate with the public immediately.

At the same time, the Administration needed new digital platforms to support pandemic response, infrastructure investment, and emerging policy initiatives.

Approach

Enabling the Presidential Digital Communication Strategy

WDG partnered closely with the White House to design and develop WhiteHouse.gov and related initiative platforms, helping translate policy priorities into clear, public-facing digital experiences. Our team delivered homepage enhancements, interactive tools, and standalone initiative sites that helped communicate major national efforts.

Beyond the website itself, WDG supported the Administration’s direct communication channels with the press and public. We implemented and managed the White House’s Mailchimp infrastructure, including subscriber migrations, email template development, and platform integrations that enabled reliable distribution of announcements and policy updates to millions of subscribers.

WDG also coordinated translation workflows and publishing for La Casa Blanca (WhiteHouse.gov/es), ensuring Spanish-language content remained accurate, timely, and fully integrated with the Administration’s digital platform.

Launching Platforms Supporting National Priorities

COVID.gov and COVIDTest.gov

WDG designed and developed platforms that helped Americans access testing resources, locate services, and understand public health guidance during the pandemic.

Invest.gov

WDG built an interactive map allowing visitors to explore infrastructure investments across the country. The platform made federal investment data easier to understand at both national and local levels.

AI.gov and CleanEnergy.gov

WDG supported new federal initiatives by redesigning and enhancing platforms that communicate priorities related to artificial intelligence and energy policy.
