This past Friday, I was invited to speak to students about S.T.E.M. and how it related to my field as a web developer.

The S.T.E.M. program is a blended approach to problem solving, including but not limited to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. S.T.E.M based initiatives have been gaining notoriety to pique interest in and provide an introduction to these disciplines earlier in the academic journey. President Barack Obama emphasizes that such educational emphases will produce innovation that will continue to propel the United States forward technologically.

Organized by the West Orange African Heritage Organization in support of their American Black History Month Series, I headed north to Edison Central Six School in West Orange, NJ. As a Jersey girl, born and raised, I was elated to be offered the opportunity to hang out with a bunch of rambunctious sixth graders to contextualize S.T.E.M.

Needless to say, we had a blast. Check out the slides and pay it forward by introducing the S.T.E.M. program to a group of students near you!
